Simple Supply and Demand economics. There is quite a lot of old dirt
around, but not so much old furniture.. :)

In the case of Polydore's pool, the price is mostly for *moving* the
dirt. The dirt itself is really free.

If you take your car to the carwash, they charge you to remove the dirt
because you don't want it and they don't pay you for the dirt because
they don't want it! They have an ample supply and little demand for the
dirt that they salvaged from your car :)
