1499 Birth of Katherine von Bora, the former German nun who became Martin
Luther's wife in 1525 when he was 41 and she 26. During their 21-year
marriage, Katie bore Martin 3 sons and 3 daughters. Her death in 1552
followed six years after her husband's in 1546.

993 St. Ulrich, who lived c.890-973, and was Bishop of Augsburg from 923,
was canonized at a Lateran Synod. With this action by Pope John XV, St.
Ulrich became the first individual in Roman Catholic history formally
elevated to sainthood
