I got permission to share this, it's put to the rhythm of "Song of
Hiawatha" by Longfellow...Siobhan

*********************

On the shores of Cooper's Lake, dears
brightly stretched the merchants selling
touting, wheedling, shiney objects
dearer then the leaves of forests
this is where with purse strings loosened
you find yourself in straits most dire.

See the precious hand made crockery
fragile ere you try to bring them
safely to your abode far stretching
bubble wrap will not protect them
shards will greet you upon your arrival

Fear not the merchant and his wonders
rolls and rolls of bright trim streaming
many rainbows catch your fancy
yards and yards of trim most gleaming
make your spouses' eyes to water
knowing that his bank account is empty

Count the days of endless shopping
women meet in joyful greetings
showing to each other treasures
husbands stand, their pockets bleeding
frantic in their hopes of luncheon
eyeing with longing the tents of eating
fruitless die their hopes of feeding
or fading sunscreen on their bald spots
or of succor to sore feet most needing
this is the plight of faithful husbands
shopping with their wives unheeding
of the time or suns transition
til in darkness soulfelt pleading
head they homeward greatly burdened
swearing never shall they wander
ever again to bazaars splendor
