Greetings to the Midrealm Eq. list, I am forwarding a message from some
SCA
folks in Meridies who run a Horse Rescue operation.
They have found out about a large bunch of Shires that are healthy and
Sound
but are going to the Slaughter house if they can't
get them. They do not currently have the funds to manage this rescue
venture on their own, They have stated in a previous message that they
will
keep track
of the funds donated and when the horses are eventually fit to be adopted
out, the donations will be paid back from the adoption fee. For those
that
are up to the Keeping and training of a 2-3 year old Shire who has
previously been used as a Stud, you can also outright purchase a horse
for
about $800
Here is the info from them, There were previous messages that I no longer
have up on the que to send to you, but if you have any further questions
please
contact Deb.

Message sent yesterday after Deb's first phone call with the Person
currently holding the horses.
16 left, all stallions (they all were studs) blacks, greys, dark dappled
greys. 2 and 3 year olds, if we buy all that are left, I can get them for
$800 a head.

What we will do is foster them until they are completely healthy, gentle
them, and adopt them out to good homes. Adoption fee will probably be
between $1,000 and $1,500, depending on what we have to put in them to
get
them ready.

The ones that are sold outright that we board will be boarded for $60 +
medications/ supplements/etc.

Deb

Greetings all,

Okay, second call from the man with the Shires.

There are currently 18 horses, two of which are probably sold. 6 to 8 of
these horses are tagged to go to Canada.

THIS MEANS BE KILLED FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION !!!!!

Other than some bumps, bruises, one with a bump on a knee (but not
limping)
and the one with the halter injury, they are "sound".

I have convinced him to give us time (we've got until Wednesday, July
31st)
to get the funds together for these horses.

To buy the eight tagged for Canada, $8,000

To buy all of them (16 horses) $16,000

This sounds like a lot, but folks, the kill price is higher. These horses
weight at or more than 1600lbs right now. They are all fat. The kill
price
on these horses would be $.70+ per lb, or $1,120.00 and up per horse.

Along with the purchase price, we've got to get new coggins and health
certificates. that's going to be $20+ per horse for coggins plus 2 to 4
health certificates (can list several horses on each certificate.

As for the waiting time on the coggins, I've got that covered as well.
Contacting foster homes in Illinois, to get that all set up. If any of
you
are in Illinois and want to foster, contact me!

This can be done folks !!!!

Come on, just a $50 or $100 donation from 100 - 200 folks will buy the
canada bound horses, 200 - 300 folks to buy them all !!!!

WE CAN DO THIS FOLKS !!!!

Send this info to any list you wish, we need all the help we can get !!!

With much appreciation,

In Service,
