[Namron] OT: On the subject of having a daughter...

This is a little off topic, but I always thought it
funny. My science teacher once told us about her
first date ever, who she eventually married.

She was about 17 at the time and had a very, very
protective father. A very, very protective,
GUN-collecting father.

She was, of course, ready early, but when the doorbell
rang, her father made her go into the kitchen and
wait. He then proceeds to show the nice young man
into the family den where he has laid out his entire
gun collection for "cleaning". He sits down, picks up
a WWII era German Luger and begins oiling the barrel,
while chatting with the now nervous boy about his
family, classes, etc. Suddenly, he directs the boy to
walk over to the window with him. The exchange went
something like this.

"Son, do you see that big maple tree in the yard of
the house halfway down the block?"

"Yes, sir, I do."

Hands the boy binoculars. "Look up in the top. You
see the squirrel sitting up there?"

Boy looks. "Yes sir, I do."

"Son." Moment of silence. "I can blow that
squirrel's head off from here, and it won't know its
dead until it hits the ground." Another beat. "When
will you have Sarah home?"

"What time would be convient for you sir?"

Thank heaven for little girls.

Aline,
Whose father still claims that boys carry cooties,
even though I am nearly 23 and probably the best hope
he has for grandkids.
