Here is a timeline of the events leading up to the cancellation of
populace yesterday:
I arrive home at 5:15 pm. At 5:28 pm, I was called by the Norman
Public Library announcing they would be closing at 6 pm. I
immediately contacted her Excellency with the bad news. After a 30
second brainstorming session, I set about to try to secure another
meeting space. I was able to make a last minute reservation with the
Unitarian Universalist Fellowship at 5:37pm, then immediately set
about contacting the officers to notify them of the new meeting
facility (two of which informed me they would not be able to make it
to pop due to the road conditions). I then started to compose a
stack of maps and a notice to hang on the door of the library
notifying those whom could not be contacted.
At 6:10 pm I received a call from his Excellency Ulf. He had just
come home from work after a hazardous drive. After talking with him
for a bit, I made the decision to cancel populace at 6:13 p.m. I
then set about to re-contact the officers and compose the email which
appeared on the list at 6:21 p.m.
I then set about to find my populace list to start some calls, but
unfortunately I had left my laptop case (and populace list) at work.
So unfortunately I could not have contacted anyone but the officership.
The idea of a calling tree is an excellent idea. I also wish to
extend an offer to those that want special notification to contact me
so I can put them on a "priority" list should such a situation occur
again.
Once again, I apologize for such short notice. Hopefully we will
have more advance warning of conditions that might cause
cancellations like this so we can make a more timely decision.
