I can see both the point of the rank by proxy being
period and wanting people to make their own identity.

I was having a hard time initially breaking through
the  shell of the SCA.  Mike is well known in the
Barony and the Kingdom.  Mistress Roane, his late
wife, is also well known in the Barony and the
Kingdom.  I started as an unknown who was pretty much
just in the background.  By getting on the list,
asking questions, and identifying myself with my well
accomplished and much loved and adored hubby, people
began to figure out who I was.  

I have been around the Barony since about August of
2002.  I just became a member a couple of months ago
for the first time in my life.  So, pardon me if I
don't get everything right.  

I married Mike is April of 2003, so I consider us to
still be newlyweds.  I guess I'm still a little starry
eyed where he is concerned and doggone proud of who he
is, his accomplishments both SCAdian and mundane, and
to be lucky enough to be his wife.  

I repeat, I DON'T WANT ANY special recognition or
treatment because I am married to a Laurel except for
folks to understand that I haven't picked up
everything by osmosis and I still need to ask dumb
questions.  I am a very curious person by nature and
usually a quick learner.  

Now that people are recognizing my name and face and
putting them together, I don't need to ride so much on
Mike's skirt-tails (Pooky, don't go there . . . ).  I
was using it as a way to break the ice, not to cause
trouble.

Can we let it go now, please?
