Friends, 

This is non-SCA related, but will effect every one of
you utilizing Oklahoma Public Libraries, and
institution that should be near and dear to the heart
of a bunch of history buffs and researchers like the
SCA.

Tomorrow the state legislature votes on House Bill
1019
regarding State Aid Funding to Public Libraries.

I have recieved word today from sources AT THE CAPITOL
that Rep. Tad Jones and Sen. Sally Kern are leading
forces to cancel ALL STATE FUNDING TO PUBLIC
LIBRARIES!

I can only assume that this is a move to punish
Metropolitain library for getting folks upset last
year.  That's not my issue.  My issue is that in
"punishing" metro, they are effectively CRIPPLING
small, rural libraries like ours as well as EVERY
OTHER PUBLIC LIBRARY IN OKLAHOMA!!!

People, this is a huge issue that has NOTHING to do
with whether or not you're republican, democrat,
libertarian, independant, or otherwise.  This could
effect services to your community and to your
children.  Forget inter-library loan, forget summer
reading, forget free internet at the library....Forget
more new books/DVDS/CDs/Programs....those things will
fall by the wayside.

Please, please contact Tad Jones (don't have his
-number) and Sally Kern (405-557-7348) and tell them
that funding state aid to public libraries is CRITICAL
in your community.  Let them know that someone OTHER
than Public Librarians are worried about funding
shortages in public libraries.  Also, call your local
representative and senator.  

I for one, am planning a little
lobbying/protest/ralley at the capitol tomorrow if
anyone would like to join me. (ah....democracy at
work!)
