Guild of St. Camillus de Lellis, Kingdom of Ansteorra
      Summer 2006, AS XLI

      Endorsed at The Beltane Games

The Interkingdom Guild of St. Camillus de Lellis was presented for the Kingdom of Ansteorra in Court on May 6, 2006, AS XLI at the Beltane Games in the Barony of Namron. His Royal Majesty Abd-al Mahdi Jamal ibn Hakim graciously acknowledged the Guild and gave it His blessing along with the blessing of Her Royal Majesty Valeria Richila Navarro, in abstentia.

The Guild exists for persons with chronic illnesses and/or disabilities. It is also here for the loved ones, friends and family of people with these disorders. Those who live with these disorders and those who support us suffer less anxiety and frustration with a place to share our burdens. By supporting each other and reducing our frustration as well as "caregiver burnout,” we assist each other thereby aiding our loved ones to continue aiding us down our sometimes rocky paths to "happily ever after".

To join the Guild, contact the Guild Head for Ansteorra, Lady Isobel de Kirkbryde at 405-364-0270, kirkbryde at yahoo.com, or via mail at 429 Dakota, St., Norman, OK 73069.
             Message from the Guild Head

Lady Isobel de Kirkbryde of the Barony of Namron is Guild Head for the Kingdom of Ansteorra. Loch Soilleir has the lovely Lady Joan Briggs as House Head. Bryn Gwlad is honored to have Aetheldreda of Dun Breatan (Dreda) as House Head.

We would like to have as many groups represented in the Kingdom as possible. If you are in a Barony, Shire, Canton, Province, Principality, Stronghold, or College and would like to be the House Head, please contact Lady Isobel de Kirkbryde at 405-364-0270, kirkbryde at yahoo.com, or via mail at 429 Dakota, St., Norman, OK 73069.

      Ask the Gargoyles

      Dear Gargoyles,
As you know, certain modern conveniences are handy for safety. I am blind and use a white tipped cane. I know I can use my cane as it is and most people won’t say anything. But, I really have a lot of fun trying to make my participation as period as possible. So, of course, I’d like to make my cane look more period. Any ideas?
                                                               Signed: Looking for ideas

      Dear Looking,
I passed your question on to the experts in the Guild and have received several responses. Think over these ideas to see what you prefer and be sure to consider what meets your needs.
You can make a cane out of a white wood, like a white pine, and then varnish the top with a dark stain. Using a metal tip on the end of the cane can cause a nice sounding tap for you. Also, Bruegels paintings showed staffs that had ribbons and bells on them. You could add that to make your cane more period. Other suggestions for the white tip are carved ivory (or an imitation since that’s not legal), carved bone, carved horn, or a white polymer clay might work as well.
Most of all, be sure that your cane is sensitive enough for you and meets your needs. Have fun making it look more period. Thanks for asking. That’s exactly the kind of question we love to study.
                                                               To the Dream,

                                                             The Gargoyles
