[Namron] Ramping up Camp Cimmeron

Part of the desire to improve it is because there is now someone running the
site who is willing to make repairs and improvements. In the past this has
not been the situation. I saw a distinct improvement in the site from the
last time I was there and my understanding is that the new caretaker is the
one who made the repairs.

In regards to other sites, the suggestion to use other sites has been made
many times in the past and rejected. Hopefully somewhere in this discussion
we can reach a compromise. With repairs and improvements, Cimmaron could be
a good site. There are other sites just as good and last time I did the
research, comparable in cost. I think the main issues are that until
recently, (and which became obvious this past weekend) the site was in such
disrepair that it was becoming dangerous. Yes, it has been used for a long
time and everyone knows where everything is, but there comes a time where
safety becomes an issue and the camp was getting to that point.

On to the accessibility issue, there would have to be certain improvements
to make Cimmaron even borderline accessible, but it IS possible. There are
sites out there, in the same cost range, that are already accessible. I'm
not pushing the accessibility issue, but it is a concern as our population
ages, as well as more and more people with disabilities wanting to
participate. As Genevria and others pointed out, dirt paths give no
guidance to the visually impaired, they can bog down a wheelchair or
powerchair, and when wet and muddy can actually become dangerous even for
the able bodied.

Why are the camp owners not keeping the camp up is it a nonprofit? Where is
the money going? In 15 years the price has went up and the upkeep has went
down. The question is should we beat a dead horse and help fix it up and
keep using it? We have helped do some repairs in the past and they raised
the price after it. There are better places south of there.

This is just my opinion. Why in the #### are individuals who rent the site
having to improve the site. That is the responsibility of the site owner. If
site owners aren't doing it which we know for a fact they aren't WHY do we
keep renting that site. I have tried unsuccessfully to suggest other sites.
My kids were sick this weekend and I am damn glad I didn't have to navigate
that site AND I am not disabled.
I have been to several events that were accessable to everyone including
wheelchairs and had a blast in the elements.

i got news for ya its not just the mobile impared that have issues with the
wet conditions. you can call me darius the muddy after my slip and fall in
the mud

If we are thinking of doing work to improve accessibility, I have a
suggestion. Some gravel or hard surface paths on site will be a big benefit
to the visually impaired, and to those with mobility issues. The uneven
paths and roads are difficult as is, but when they become wet and muddy they
are dangerous.
