[Namron] Fabrics question

I did a punch test on mine by driving a 16p nail in a 2x2 cut the tip off with bolt cutters and placing the test material on the ground and hitting it with the 2x2. 3 layers of heavy denim.

I think its the vagueness that is tripping me up.  3 tunics.. might work.. might not.. need punch test..   Maybe, hint hint, we'll just assume that it will work and I will stop worrying about it.  LOL

I went to that site.  I really like what they got there.  I also like that they list the weight of it.  I've got a plan, but now I am just trying to do some research and make sure I do this the best way possible.. for me

Thanks much
Lorenzo

The only way to be sure it will work for armor is to run it through a punch test.  At one time our Rapier Marshal was talking about making an official punch test for us, and I'm sure it's still somewhere on that long list of projects he has. ;-)

For linen, the best place I know of is www.fabric-store.com.  Their IL019 is 5.3oz/yd and is what I've used for a lot of my tunics.  When I fight rapier, I've just worn three of those tunics together.  Is it legal?  Well it's passed at war and I've never had anyone say anything about it, but I won't know for sure until we get an actual punch test ::hint hint:: :-)

When one talks about a "heavier weave" natural fabric, what are they speaking of specifically?  I am looking for linen so that I can have some armor for rapier made, and I am told that 3 layers of heavy linen, and maybe a layer of pretty stuff (like brocade) might look and work terrifically but when I go to online fabric shops they don't usually say "heavy" or "light", and love em but they dont say that their linen would work great for rapier armor.  =P  How can I refine my searches so that I know that the material I get will be suitable for not getting poked.

Just thought I would throw it out on the list and see if someone has more insight.
