We also make a list for events no matter how short or long it may be.  When we took Mary to GW (when she was 6 months), we started our list several months before the event and then modified it as it got closer to the event.

By the way, we are planning to go to GW at this point.  By we, I mean Barat, Mary, Tiffany and me.  I'm not sure if Steven will go with us this time.  He really didn't like the long drive last time.
