Medieval Fair Upcoming Events
Friday February 7th, 6:15 - 7:30 pm. Medieval Fair Free Lecture Series, WEST Norman Public Library, 300 Norman Center Ct.
>From Combat to Torture: Pain and Proof in the Middle Ages presented by Jane Wickersham, Associate Professor, University of Oklahoma, Department of History.
Dr. Wickersham will examine the transition from the ordeal or trial by combat to the use of torture as proof in courts of law and in legal proceedings around the 13th century. Topics will include fictional stories such as Sir Lancelot's defense of Queen Guinevere from adultery accusations, and scenes from The Game of Thrones where Tyrion demands trial by combat and Oberyn Martel steps up to fight the Mountain.
The Medieval Fair Free Lecture Series is cosponsored by the OU Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies and hosted by the Pioneer Library System.
Come learn more about the middle ages just for the fun of learning! No papers, no test, just interesting information about life long ago.
