August Populace

Free cars were given out to the Populace. Everyone who wasn't there, you
missed out!

Their Excellencies welcomed Lindsey, who they met at Namron's yard sale.
Given the presence of a newcomer, Their Excellencies requested that the
Baronial officers provide brief explanations of what they do.

Seneschal:

The legal representative of the Barony. They deal with contract work for
events, keeping track of and processing officers, mediating issues within
the Barony, and other things that keep the Barony running.

Water Wars will be held on the north east side of Twin Lakes (more
information can be found on the facebook event page). There will be a
potluck, water-based activities including team competitions, and swimming
in the lake. Looking for anyone interested in helping run the games. I'm
happy to help and will (if need be) run them myself. I've a large plastic
tote full of sponges, buckets, and water guns and remember a few of the
games regularly played and can come up with more. If you're interested in
helping, please contact me (facebook is easiest).

Will be teaching a couple rapier cloak classes, most likely this month.
Includes two different classes (beginner and intermediate) over two
different practices to allow people a chance to practice what they've
learned between classes.

Will be hosting dance classes the 2nd and 5th Thursday of August. Following
that I'm looking to host them every 2nd and 4th Thursday,provided there’s a
location available. The August classes will be held at Southwest Oklahoma
City Library (part of the pioneer system) on August 10th and 31st from
6:30p-8:30pm. The first class will be focused on circle dances, primarily
bransles, since they typically allow for any number of people. The 31st
will focus on English Country dances. From there I'll be branching out to
others. Would love to have live musicians as well if any are interested in
playing.

Protectorate is coming up soon. We currently have an event steward, a bid
for feast, and a group interested in running a tavern. We don't currently
have the contract, but I've been in contact with the Ranger and he's black
out that weekend for us, so we're good there.

Vindheim's Rapier event, The Academy della Spada is now on the event
calendar, so we can submit a contract for the Ardmore Convention Center.
I've most of the details already (need to review them), but I will want to
get together with Master Orlando or one of his

assistant stewards to verify them.

We have a candidate for a new Seneschal and they've already gone to the
polling process. Vindheim's Seneschal needs to talk to them to cement
everything, but once that's done I'll likely step down at either business
meeting or the next Populace.

Exchequer:

The treasurer for the Barony.

The paperwork we've been waiting on for signers has finally been approved
by Corporate. Over the next two weeks she'll be working on finalizing
everything that needs to be done now that approval has been granted.

Red Tape introduced a number of changes, and she's busy trying to adjust to
everything that changed.

There was a Baronial yard sale to raise money for repairs and upkeep on the
pavilions. The Populace raised $1040 to this end. Their Excellencies
provided the Exchequer with a giant check representing the earnings.

Herald:

Helps with researching and submitting names, devices, and badges. He also
has a reference library at his house if people are interested in
researching certain time periods/cultures. The Baronial Herald also is the
voice of court, helping to organize it and read official business including
the presentation of awards and recognition.

The Hospitaler:

Assists people who may need a little help be the best SCA members that they
want to be. Is the primary contact for newcomers and also is happy to help
others find direction in other avenues they might wish to explore.

The Minister of Arts and Sciences:

Helps with arts and crafts you might be interested in trying. Is
responsible for holding classes. She tries to hold at least three classes
every month on just about any type of Arts and Sciences, either by helping
herself or finding someone who can.

A&S will be held in the Norman Library August 28th, from 7-9pm. Her
Excellency Maurine will be teaching a basic card-weaving class. Dona
Ashildur can help if you need to make a card weaver.

The Knights Marshal:

Hosts and runs the Chivalric/Armored practices.

New indoor location for the joint armor combat practices with the Barony of
Wiesenfeuer will be held at 3200 NW 48th St in Oklahoma City. Practice is
Wednesday at 6:30pm. There is a $2 site fee.

Rapier Marshal:

Hosts and runs rapier practices.

Practices are held every Wednesday at the Southern Oaks Recreation Center
from 7-9pm. There is a $2 site fee (some newcomers will be comped). There
is a youth practice from 6-7pm run by Master Elric.

Protectorate Event Steward:

Thank you to those of you who have volunteered already to work the event.
Currently looking for people to fill the following positions: Lyst Steward
(x2), Hydration and Provisions Steward, Royal Liaison, Evening Revel
Coordinator, Site Setup and Teardown Coordinators (x2), and a Class
Coordinator. Also looking for people to help transport Baronial items to
the event, and people to help with site tokens (best of 2, to allow people
to choose their token). Also looking for youth-centered tokens.

Their Excellencies:

Upcoming events include Pennsic next week. Steppes Artisan is August 5th at
Sir Richardson's down in Texas. The Serpent Symposium is in Loch Soilleir,
August 19th in Houston. Glaslyn Artisan is at The Flame, August 26th in
Denton. Locally, we have Water Wars on August 12th at Twin Lakes.

The membership challenge is closing soon. We're trying to reach a specific
(unknown to the Populace) goal by next Pop. Soaking Up September is the
next Pop meeting; bring your super soakers and a spoon (for ice cream).
Ideally wear a swimsuit or something you don't mind getting wet.

The pavilions will be set up in late August for repairs at Fort Goblin.

The hospitallers officer will now be loaning out feast gear for people that
need it. The Barony currently has 10 sets of feast gear that will be
available at events with priority going to newcomers.

There is a bid being put together to host Queen's Champion in November. The
site is in Norman.

The award challenge closed. If you participated in it and submitted
recommendations based on it, let her know and received a gift.

Axeman will be a day event this year, likely at Choctaw Park. If this is
the case, Archery and Thrown Weapons will not be held at the event due to
park regulations. It will also double as a demo.

Her Excellency talked about the many Baronial, Principality, and Kingdom
awards. People were asked to bring awards that they had so they could be
shown. More can be found out about them on the online Orders of Precedence.
She finished up by talking about award recommendations and the process for
submitting them.
