The thing I've always liked about the SCA is that women can achieve status by their own merits. It's fine to introduce yourself as so-and-so's spouse/significant other when you're new, but after a few years if someone continues to constantly refers to themselves by whom they're sleeping with, I have to think "Yeah, your married to/sleeping with a knight, but what are <EM>your </EM>interests or accomplishments? After all I'm talking to you not him/her". I also have gotten rather annoyed in the past by being constantly remembered only through the man with whom I was sharing a bed. If my significant other(s) had accomplished much in the Society, or in life in general, then I was happy for him, but that's his accomplishment and the lauding was all his, likewise, I sure wouldn't want to be held accountable for his screw-ups.
