Your Guards was very
adamant that they were 'A gift for the wondrous U'. I am by no means
wondrous, and will be the first to say so, but these fine guards of yours
were so polite, how could I refuse? I was surprised at the time that they
did not say anything or even rise from their rest under the trees to see me
off when I left them, but I thought that they were just tired. But from
your message and its tone makes me hope that
nothing ill has happened to
them, as I have never meant harm to your guards, or to you; as doing so
would be as if I was causing harm to the Crown itself. If something ill has
occurred to them, I suggest that one not eat the afore mentioned fish.
Maybe that fishmonger can shed some light on the fish.
If these horse were not meant for me, then I will return them to you, or
your guards, and until such time that they are returned, I will stop using
them to work my fields. You after all these years should know that I do not
intentionally go about causing harm to others, but since you started
building that new wall, a lot of shady characters and individuals of ill
repute have been traveling thru this area. I have not been this concerned
about the individuals on the roads and in this area since the late Respoili
was around and causing trouble.
As for the individuals that
recently came to my manor claiming to be tax
collectors, I suspect that they were not from the Crown, for those
individuals who come from the Kingdom to collect the taxes due, wear the
livery of the Kingdom proudly, have proper identification, and paperwork
showing what I am to pay, and carry themselves as a person who is about the
Kings business. In addition, when the true tax collectors arrive to collect
the Kingdom's due, they are most courteous and have a manner that properly
reflects the greatness of this Kingdom.
The one's that recently showed up here, however, did not wear the proper
livery, had no form of identification to show that they were about the
business of the Kingdom. In fact, they carried no paperwork to show what I
was to pay, which is by itself suspicious. As who has ever heard of a
tax-man without his ledger showing what an individual is to pay? I
imagine,
that even in your Barony, your Reeves keeps plenty of proper records that
show what is due in taxes, by the individuals members of Bonwicke, and what
they have already paid in the past several years.
These individuals were very suspicious to me; not only by their manners,
which was very rude, but by their whole demeanor. Each of them was so hard
to understand by their speech, that I at first, thought they had rocks in
their mouths. These individuals were disrespectful, not only to my
household, but also to the banner of the Kingdom which is displayed with
pride on the wall of my manor. In fact my friend, I had to stop one of them
from using it to wipe his hands and face on when he finished drinking
something out of a bladder he carried, that smelled like spoiled milk.
They were also extremely shabby looking in their appearance. Not only
was their
skin very dirty, but also their clothes, which was filthy, ragged,
full of holes, and was very smelly, as if they spent a lot of their time on
horseback. Trust me they were not about the King's business.
If you wish I will gladly sit down and discuss this matter in person
with you at the upcoming fighter practice, on the 11th.

I remain in Service to the Kingdom and the Dream.

Agnarr

----- Original Message -----
From: "HE Chiang" <chiang@nts-online.net>
To: "Western Region of Ansteorra - SCA, Inc." <western@lists.ansteorra.org>
Sent: Thursday, July 31, 2008 11:08 PM
Subject: Re: [Western] Regional fighter practice

> HL Agnar,
> Maybe I am a bit confused by your missive.
Perhaps you have eaten some of
> your own salad with some strange mushrooms or something. It would seem
> from your letter that you took some horses that were bound for someone
> else and perhaps cause injury to members of our area? I suppose also that
> the reports too of missing people and the King's tax collectors in the
> surrounds of the home of yourself and Ld Logan, being done in by the two
> of you, maybe also true? I will have had a talk with HG Aaron about this
> when he was on the Throne, and we decided that it would have to be looked
> into and dealt with also.
> In service and fief to the Crown,
> HE Chiang
> Baron of Bonwicke
>
> ----- Original Message -----
> From: "agnarr" <agnarr@suddenlink.net>
> To: "Western Region of Ansteorra - SCA, Inc."
>

Even though your new gate guards have a strange sense of humor.
>> (When I first came up to the gate, they refused to grant me passage). And
>> when my son mentioned that I was a great-bearded Buddha Belly, they
>> jumped all over themselves to open the gate for me.
>> But please understand that, I am very sorry for not stopping and visiting
>> with you, but I was traveling through the lands of Bonwicke as I had
>> business in the Shire of Adlersruhe. But in my travels, I did spend some
>> time talking
with a lot of fine people about the current state of the
>> preparations that you are making in the Barony, and they are all
>> impressed with the needed upkeep of the Kings-road that goes from Treloc
>> to Adlersruhe -- I must say that you have done a real good job on it
>> too. Heck, I bet you could march a whole army on it now without anyone,
>> breaking an ankle. You even impressed ole-man A.C. Kerly, You know the
>> old-man that lives just north of the wall you have just built and you
>> know how hard-nosed he is about things.
>> Anyway, I finally ended up staying the night in the Shire of Adlersruhe
>> and after seeing the sights there, and taking care of a bit of business,
>> I returned back home all safe and sound. But I did want to thank your
>> fine soldiers who gave me them 12 new horses. Are these men new to
your
>> lands? I only ask, as I have not seen them before. Anyway, they stopped
>> me at the waterwell in La Mesa, while I was watering my poor ole'
>> animals, and when I approached their animals, to get a better look at the
>> excellent horses, your men stood in front of me and all they would say
>> was 'Chain horses, gift for the wondrous U!' Your Excellency, I was so
>> impressed, and thankful, I went and made them a fresh fish salad using
>> some of those new fast growing fish I found in a store in Aldersruhe. You
>> know the ones that when you catch them they swell up to three times their
>> normal size. Your men were so impressed they ate their meal with plenty
>> of something they called 'ice', and then they went and fell asleep under
>> a few nearby trees, they must have been trying to find me for sometime to
>> give me those horses, because they were so tired they did not even wave
>> good-bye to me when I left.
>> But the reason for this message is to let you know that whomever sold
>> you those horses, your excellencies, does not know his horse-flesh very
>> well so to speak. As these 12 horses; while it is true - that they are
>> perfectly matched and being the purest white color I have seen in years -
>> they have not been trained at all in pulling and they know nothing about
>> being chained to a plow, or wagon for that matter. But don't fret your
>> excellency, I will gladly take the time to train them to the duties
>> required for farm-work. But I thought you might want to question your
>> 'Master of Horses' more closely in the future, as these fine animals, are
>> to me more suited for the tasks related to the
battlefield then the farm
>> field.
>>
>> Again Thanks for the Horses.
>>
>> Agnarr
>> _______________________________________________
>> Western mailing list
>> Western@lists.ansteorra.org
>> http://lists.ansteorra.org/listinfo.cgi/western-ansteorra.org
>>
>
>
> _______________________________________________
> Western mailing list
> Western@lists.ansteorra.org
> http://lists.ansteorra.org/listinfo.cgi/western-ansteorra.org
>
