color:#1F497D'>My oldest girls and I have volunteered at the Dorothy Day Center
food bank in the past, delivering groceries to families around the city.
It has always been a very satisfying experience, especially around the
holidays. They have a huge need this time of year for people willing to
help out, especially the week leading up to a holiday. Seeing them in
action, with all the volunteers filling bags, making lists and sending out
drivers is pretty amazing. I don’t know if they do any type
of toy drive and/or delivery though. Their website is <a

Christmas time. We have done this with the law firm I worked for several
years in a row. They are also a great resource for finding volunteer

things a bit differently, allowing the family to come in and “shop”
for Christmas at their location. It takes a huge number of volunteers to
man the store during the days it is open. They also distribute drop boxes

color:#1F497D'>One of the things I’ve seen most charities do is try to
respect parental dignity. Most of the programs in the past that I’ve
been involved in have always stressed getting items to the parents, so they can
give them to the children. So in most cases, volunteers are playing Santa
to the parents, and the parents get to play Santa for their children. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

volunteer to do is deliver toys to families that are not able to provide
Christmas toys for thier children. I know there are some agencies that
collect toys and actually go out and deliver them to individuals that they have
on thier lists, but I'm not sure who they are exactly of if it's even something
offered in this area. It would be a fun idea though to make children
smile :)<br>
