12.0pt'>Dr. Van Oort of St. Gregory’s University discusses medieval
controversies about dance and the men and women who performed it. Dance was a
lively part of medieval festivities, and people danced to celebrate weddings,
harvests, and the feast days of saints. In the visions of the mystics, Christ
and the angels also danced. However, not everyone approved, and the arguments
over whether dance was an expression of sinful frivolity or sacred joy went on
for centuries, and still echo today. For the finale of her presentation she
will teach whichever audience members are up for it a simple medieval circle
dance.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
