<p class="MsoNormalCxSpMiddle"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif""> Plucked, bowed, or hammered, strings have dominated music for millennia. This presentation examines our ancient obsession with vibrating strings
and how early cultures adapted stringed instruments for their musical preferences. John McWilliams, Associate Professor of Natural Science at Oklahoma Baptist University will be presenting a program on the art, science, and history of early music. He and
his wife Sherry perform as Rose Rock Consort at Medieval Fair and other venues. He also makes his own historically accurate instruments.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN" style="font-size:12.0pt;color:#333333">Thomas F. Glick received his PhD from Harvard in 1968, and taught at the University of Texas prior to his appointment at Boston University. His research focuses on medieval Spain, medieval
science and technology, as well as modern science and food history. He is the author of Islamic and Christian Spain in the Early Middle Ages (2nd ed., 2005); From Muslim Fortress to Christian Castle: Social and Cultural Change in Medieval Spain (1995); Irrigation
and Hydraulic Technology: Medieval Spain and its Legacy (1996); Einstein in Spain (1988); and co-author of Negotiating Darwin: The Vatican Confronts Evolution, 1877-1902 (2006).<o:p></o:p></span></p>
