Yes, the rope walkers have done that sometimes but the rope walkers haven't reached everybody and one herald or master of ceremonies could reach more people if we get that herald out there right at the half way point of a fighting session and the herald says "just a quick word, don't leave ," etc. Then the rope walkers, once the fighting starts up again, can add more detail as they've done in the past....but I think we need that one person in the center of things to tie things together, to point to all the tents and pavillions surrounding the fighting and to explain that this is all one group, most of the folks sitting around here in funny clothes are part of the same SCA. And, now that I think of it: I think Vincenti might be the best person to be
that master of ceremonies, though we can use different people at different times. Of course, it might be a natural role for the Baron or Baroness, though Her Excellency might not have the voice for it, my thinking being that someone with a big booming voice would be best. I'd say we need some folks who can PROJECT well. I might be good at it, too, if I had my lines prepared in advance. I've done a lot of acting and my voice is probably my strength as an actor but I'm not saying I should be picked for the job. There are several folks who might do it well. Anyway, point is to throw this out there for consideration. I want to make sure that as many people as possible leave the fair knowing that the SCA is an organization that does this stuff year round and that if they feel so inclined they can join us and play with us about as often as they want.

Most of them don't have a clue about the SCA. Every year I'm amazed when I talk to them. This fact should be central to what we do at Medfair. In some ways we've improved in recent years but I think some might be amazed at how many folks leave our area with litte knowledge of the SCA. I say we need to explain more. One possibility is that heralds during the fighting could give a brief spiel about the SCA. A five minute break RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FIGHTING might be a good way to do it. Now, I'm not suggesting a long break. Just somebody saying "hey, you know we do this year round m'lords and ladies. We have a King and Queen and sometimes go to wars," etc. etc. Something to make sure that most everyone
knows we're not just doing this one weekend a year and so that they know that if they're interested {and I know not everyone is} then they can join us. </span></div>

<div>Here's my latest "can't sleep, guts are killing me, think about something else" idea. Not sure how it will sound in the morning, but right now I am totally in love with it.<br><br></div>I propose a hospitaler's area set up at Med Fair with a theme of "See Yourself in the SCA." This would include things like:<br>
</div></div>- painted boards with face cutouts, for photo props, for a variety of familiar period characters (knight, king, queen, Viking, Mongol, Celt -- what else?). There should be at least two for couples. Maybe some short ones for kids? And some step stools so kids could get their faces in the taller ones. Running up the side of the picture you could label the persona (14th c. French noble / <a href="http://www.sca.org/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://www.sca.org/</a>). Make it a really fun, free souvenir. I don't think these would be hard to make, and they'd be easy to
store year to year if they had hinged or removable feet; they're just a sheet of plywood. There's nothing like this anywhere in the fair so it could be really popular. Maybe also a big sign saying, "sure, we'll take a picture on your phone for you" and volunteers willing to do so.<br>
