<span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:black">Hildegard of Bingen (1098-1179) was truly one of the luminaries of the twelfth-century Renaissance in Europe. Abbess of a women’s monastery, she wrote theological texts; an encyclopedia of plants, animals, gems, and
metals; a book on medicine, which included extensive material on sexuality; and, not least of all, beautiful, creative, and unusual liturgical music to be sung, played, and even acted out.
