Medieval Japan - In 1192, the first Shogunate, or warrior government, rose from the ashes of war to dominate Japan. Over the next 400 years, as the aristocratic culture of classical Japan withered away, vibrant new forms took hold in everything from art and
clothing to religion and warfare. Much of “traditional” Japan was in fact born during these centuries--Japan’s own, tumultuous Middle Ages!<br>
