DAVID QUINLAN REED, 67, Kansas City, MO,
died July 27, 1999, at home after a short battle with cancer.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 30, at D.W.
Newcomer's Sons Stine & McClure Chapel, 3235 GillhamPlaza;
burial at Mt. Washington Cemetery. Friends may call 5:30-7
p.m. Thursday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family
requests contributions to the Missouri Conservation Heritage
Foundation,Memo: James A Reed Area, P.O. Box 366, Jefferson
City, MO 65102-0366.David was born September 10, 1931,
and was a lifelong resident of the Kansas City area. He
graduated from the Phillips Academy, Andover, MA, Stanford
University,Palo Alto, CA, and the University of Michigan Law
School, Ann Arbor, MI. David practiced law in Kansas City for 39
years and enjoyed active membership in state and national bar
associations. David was elected to the Missouri State
Legislaturein 1972, and possessed a lifelong interest in politics
and service to his constituentsand clients. As a highly
respectedand involved member of the local chapter of the
Society for Creative Anachronism, David enjoyed writing
award-winning heraldic poetry. An avid scholar of medieval Irish
history, David was also an active outdoorsman who enjoyed
hunting, fishing, and camping. With a spirit of encouragement
and generosity,David was committed to helping all those who
came to him in need. He was preceded in death by his parents,
former U.S. Senator James A. Reed and Nell Quinlan Reed.
Survivors include his wife, Astrid M. "Tinker" Reed, of the home;
sons Dupuy Warrick Reed, KansasCity, MO, James A. Reed II
and his wife, Sara, Kansas City, MO, and John E. Reed and his
wife, Linda, Boston, MA; daughter, Ellen R. Welsh and her
husband,Randall, Downer's Grove, IL; and four grandchildren.
