I agree. Most folks don't remember, but the War College didn't start
until the second Tribute. And then it was only as a favor to a King
who asked a somewhat overworked Regional Marshal to run one.
Most folks also don't remember that Tribute wasn't originally
intended to be a perpetual event. It started as a one-time-only
thing and the only reason it continued was because folks asked
Gitana (the first autocrat, then Northern regional treasurer) to
"please let's do it again" after the event went so well the first
year. I don't think it became perpetual until after the third one.

Again, I agree completely. If we had it to do over again I would
strongly advise against adding it to the schedule. It completely
changed the focus of the event and laid groundwork for many
misunderstandings that followed.

I have to smile at this. When Wiesenfeuer elected not to sponsor NRT
anymore and sent out their letter to all the groups, it very
specifically said that we wanted to use our February date that year
(the one we used to sponsor Wolfstar, NRT, and now Mead Bees)
for a Really Big War College. We respectfully requested that any
group who wanted to continue sponsorship of NRT please pick a date
that wouldn't directly conflict with our normal February date
(whatever we decided to use it for in future years). In the midst of
a whole lot of confusion the decision was made that it would be in
the best interests of the kingdom for the War College to continue in
conjunction with NRT and happen in February.
Thus nixed the idea for a separate War College. We hated that,
because we were all for a less busy schedule that would allow Barn
and I both a whole day of teaching/fighting (I'm always being
called away from the war college for official business). It also
would have allowed plenty of time for other pre-war activities - like
choosing artisans for GW (should TRM desire) or Titled Champions for
the Region, testing seige engines, practicing combat archery, etc.
We strongly felt that support for our Kingdoms war effort should be
more than just an afterthought tacked on to a fund-raising event.
So, Estril, I daresay you have quite a few people who agree with you
for what it's worth (though I personally think two regional events a
year is overkill). I was tempted to propose such a radical change
myself, but felt, like you, that I would definitely be among the
minority of those who thought the idea made perfect sense.
