Take two 8 foot long 4x4s.  These can usually be picked up relatively cheap
at lumber yards.  Drill six holes in each one about a foot and a quarter to
a foot and a third apart.  The holes should be big enough to take a piece of
jute rope.  Countersink the holes big enough to hide a knot of rope.  Run
about a 4 foot piece of rope through each hole and put a good knot in each
end of the rope.

These ropes are the oars.  Six people stand on the 4x4s, feet between the
ropes, left feet on one board and right feet on the other.  Everyone lifts
the left foot and the left board (using the ropes) at the same time and
moves it forward.  Then the right board and feet.  This is your ship.
Falling or stepping off the ship is *bad*.

What makes this so fun is getting six people to agree which is left and
which is right.  You could go "shield" and "sword" instead, but this almost
guarantees one lefty in the crowd.  I've seen this where the people that
accidentally step off the ship don't die, but they lose the power of human
speech.  Or they have to face backwards.  Etc.  Much fun,  especially if you
are trying to carry anything while you do this.
