AN EVENING OF CELTIC AND RENAISSANCE MUSIC
The Norman Unitarian Universalist Fellowship will host an evening of
traditional Celtic and Renaissance music featuring Counterfeit Bards and
Waytes and Measures. The event will be held March 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the
Norman UU Fellowship 1309 West Boyd in Norman, Oklahoma. Admission is $5 at
the door. Childcare will be available for an additional $2 per child.
Performing traditional material for a modern audience, The Counterfeit Bards
specialize in rousing sing-alongs from Ireland, tragic ballads from
Scotland, and lively dance tunes from the English Renaissance and Celtic
repertoire. Bards have performed at the Oklahoma Renaissance Faire in
Muskogee, the King Arthur Faire in Stroud, the "Global Oklahoma" Festival at
Rose State College, and the Fall Peace Festival and the Unitarian Church
      Music Fest in Oklahoma City.
Waytes and Measures is a Renaissance band featuring reproductions of period
instruments-woodwinds, strings, percussion-who perform music primarily of
the 15th and 16th centuries. They perform for period reenactments, weddings,
church services, and concerts. This concert will include original
arrangements of Renaissance music by one of the members, Scott Powers. The
performance will include instrumental, group and solo vocal pieces. Members
of the group come from several area communities drawn together by their
interest in researching and performing early music.
