Churches are exempt from certain taxes by statute. The SCA is exempt from
certain taxes by statute. As long as either organization, is acting in
accordance with their exemptions, they can sell stuff without paying sales
tax. BTW, we aren't required to collect sales tax on feasts because there
is an exemption for 501(c)(3) buying and selling food.

While the Church may be exempt from paying sales taxes, the merchants are
not. As an "organizer," the Church is not being taxed, they are being
required to pay a fee and to file the required paperwork.

If it was the Church or the SCA doing the merchanting, as long as they stay
inside the specific exemptions in the statutes, there is no tax issue other
than filing the required forms.
