Border March Melees were fantastic! It was a wonderful reminder of how magical events can be! Their Excellencies Border March and their Populace are fabulous hosts. The site was gorgeous! Wet, yes, but it drained well and all that fog and mist seemed to add to the atmosphere. Passing through the entrance to site with the large torches helped me to feel transported into the past.

Northern Ansteorra sent a large contingent of fighters and support crew and all came to play and play hard! Ask Baron Lucais and Don Elric about the large number of castle blocks donated. The eighty-ish blocks bought lots and lots of "resurrections" for Northern fighters. The weekend's scenario was "Rebels against Barony." House Wolfstar did come to the event in large numbers and sided with the Rebels (now there's a surprise!). During the many battles on Thursday the Rebels and Wolfstar were able to capture and keep the Castle. The Rebels began the day on Saturday within the castle now festooned with Wolfstar banners! They were able to defend the castle twice successfully against larger numbers in the Baron's forces. In the interest of everyone having a chance to defend the castle, the Rebels allowed the opposing forces to occupy the castle for a couple of battles. (I'm not sure that was a good idea as it gave my Lord Johann more than one opportunity to kick in a large door.
He really liked doing that an awful lot! I hope he does't want to practice that at home...) Then there were the field battles and the bridge battles. There were many of us on the sidelines cheering for our troops despite the fairly steady mist. The fighting was indeed glorious! At the end of two days of fighting the troops were pretty tired!

In the evening both Friday and Saturday there was a wonderful Hafla organized by HL. Dominique. She and Don Elric once again created a magical space with small lights, scarves, drapes and oriental carpets. The core of the drummers were our good friends from Wolfstar. Baron Lucais, Deidru, Dee, Valia, D'Alder and especially Kieorn rocked the woods both nights. There were beautiful dancers, much fun and revelry in the Hafla while the rains fell outside.

Those of us in Northern Ansteorra know Lady Angelique's beautiful voice well. Now the good populace of Border March have come to know and appreciate her talent well enough to make her their titled Bard! Countess Sir Syf was so proud of her beautiful and talented daughter it was hard to keep her feet on the ground.

My Lord and I are already planning our return trip next year. I strongly encourage anyone interested in lots of fighting, drumming and dancing to consider traveling to Border March for their Fall Melees next year. What a hoot!

Bright Blessings,

Auntie Dwen

Valstarr,

Well let me tell ya. It was incredible! It was some of the best melee fighting
I have been to in a long time. Not a lot of standing around waiting. I never
had time to do a pick up fights between the battles. We did castle battles,
field battles, and resurrection bridge battle. Next year I am bringing more
blocks thats all there is to that. The weather was great! Cloudy with a slight
mist but it stayed cool and comfortable all day. The castle is awesome the
finest I have ever fought at, and it is only going to get better. The pick up
fights seemed to last forever plus they where fantastic! Sadly there where
more knights doing pick up fights than non belted fighters. To all fighters
that are out there this is not a good thing!! There were fighters from as far
away as Michigan at this glorious event. Wolfstar did a fantastic job.
fighting against them was a real joy. For those of you who missed it all I can
say is it is only 363 days till the next Bordermarch melee event. I think you
better start making plans to go as the entire event was wonderful. Thanks to
Bordermarch for hosting such a excellent event.
