Guedelon is about 1.5 hrs SE of Paris.   

They're not just building a castle.  They built the supporting village
as well.

They have a farm to grow the hemp to make the rope.   Feed the horses
which haul the timber.  Keep the sheep so they gather the wool.  etc.

There are seperate workshops for each craft disipline.  The carpenter
makes the hafts for the axes and other tools which come from the
blacksmith's shop...You get the idea.  

They accept volunteers who are willing to come work for a minimum of 4
weeks.  One week is spent just learning about the project as a whole,
one week learning the craft you're assigned to.  The remainder is work
and/or tour guide.  

IIRC they're in year 12 of an expected 25 year schedule to complete the
castle.
