Subject: [NR] Regional Names

Greetings all,
t looks like the list of ideas for names is already growing. You can see that
ist here: http://northstar.scaevent.org/regional-names
I have been asked by multiple people to post a little more information about one
of the names I had suggested: Hriðmarc

ronounced Rith-Mark, this named comes from Old English and means Land of the
empest or Land of the Storm. Tempest and Storm are both ideas that some have
uggested for possible conversion to other languages for consideration as a
egional name. Using those suggestions is where I came up with Hriðmarc. It can
e spelled multiple ways using both the ð, or eth, and þ or thorn letter from
ld english both of which are pronounced as a th in most cases. the marc could
lso be spelled mearce but I used the shortened form marc. Or you can write it
ut in modern English as Rithmark.
This name is one that can have meaning for the whole region being part of the
ountry known for our storms and tornado. This name can also hold a more special
meaning in the groups of Northkeep and Namron, with Namon's use of the tornado
n its heraldry and one of Northkeep's original name submissions being
ordausdestrom (North of the Storm). To quote one person who emailed me this
articular name reeks of legend and history. This may seem like pushing a hard
ell and it may seem a little early to do that and I would agree but for my part
I just wanted people to see what can go into a name and how quickly people can
ecide they don't or that they do like a suggested name.
This process is just now starting and already is gather a lot of momentum...it
s very exciting to be part of it. I hope everyone can experience that same
eeling.
Most kindly
an
