[NR] Northern name--ownership question

I would still recommend getting a registrable name (if that becomes the decision and a name is agreed upon and the kingdom and Crown agree to bestow a name).

For example, let's say that the region decided to use Snugglevania (or whatever) but we didn't register it. Then a new group starts up in Calontir or Gleann Abhann and they like our name; so they register it and effectively take it away from us. Or register something in another language that effectively means the same thing; and effectively take it away. Or some new group in Drachenwald who have never heard of our region register something too close.

Also, once registered it becomes less subject to whim. Region boundaries exist at the whim and discretion of the Crown and Kingdom Seneschal. Not only could boundaries change but whether one Crown would allow region names and another dislikes the whole concept. At least if it is registered, it exists (whether used or not) and that may make it slightly less susceptable to whim.

So, if this process ends up with a desired name, I would highly recommend registering it as a heraldic title or some similar form.

Respectfully,

Were we the Northern Region of Ansteorra to select a regional name, our choices would be to use it without registration or to petition the Crown to register it under whatever definition They saw fit, and allocate it for our use as an identifying label. A petition that They, of course, being the Crown, might honor, ignore or denounce as They will.
