Then how about Brightmoon? An even better symmetry/dichotomy.

olaris has several other names. Many of them are already in use in the SCA, and
ill have to be avoided.
lpha Ursa Minoris, Dhruva Tara, Lodestar, Pole Star, Alruccabah, Cynosura,
hruv, Phoenice, Tramontana, Angel Stern, Navigatoria, Star of Arcady, Yilduz,
ismar, Gwiazda Polarna, Polyarnaya, Midnight Star.
Cynosura's Latin origin relates to a dog's tail (It's the tip of the tail of the
mall Bear) but as the word has come into English, cynosure means a thing to
hich all attention is drawn, or that serves as a guide.
Lodestar also carries the connotation of a leader, or something that shows the
ay. Navigatoria obviously does the same.
I believe there are names that imply the star is the hub of the wheel of heaven,
round which all the other stars turn, but I haven't found that for sure.
Someone a short time ago suggested finding a name based on "Storm Moon", and I
hink it's worth pointing out that "Moon" is a name fragment of importance to
hose of us from what was once the Western Region, and to those of us from
ooneschadowe, and that "Storm" is a name fragment of importance to both Namron
our oldest barony) and to Northkeep (our youngest and largest barony), which
as once called Nordliche Sturm, the Northern Storm. It's not a bad name,
arrying connections from one end of the region to the other.

nguages.

hy not find a name that represents the NORTH STAR- like Polaris? What would

ll the kidding aside many of us appear to be all for naming this region
mething that signifies its people which is a good idea or for being in the
art land but that idea is unfortunately not a new one and there are some
ncerns regarding names that have already been claimed:
thelmearc means home land in Old English
lontir is literally Welsh for heart land
e Middle Kingdom sort of signifies it is in the center or things like a heart
ridies is latin for middle of the day
as you can see the whole heart land idea has sort of been done. A good idea
t lets not jump on that bandwagon, we are a diverse people who are different
om almost anywhere else I have been in the SCA so please lets try to step out
de of the middle and heart of things and step outside ourselves and come up
th some names that define the strength, pride, unity, and heart of the people
Northern Ansteorra.
ere are some words old English that I have been playing with for name ideas.
e of them is Hird which is Old English for the people of a family, household,
gion, or race. You could combine that with any number of words like:
irdmarc =land of the people
ldhird = warlike people...and this could be a pretty accurate depiction of the
orthern region.
llenhird = strong people...an even better description maybe.
ithanhird = people giving strength
enhird = equal people
ice is a word for realm or land so what about trying some combinations of
at...
ibrice = land of Unity.
rdrice= land of the people
lenrice = land of strength
ithanrice = giving strength to the realm
enrice = land of equals
ow about getting outside the box a little and going with something like...
unewald = the mighty cup, referring to our love of strong drinks and the skill
our brewers could also be Bunellen.
fworth = Cattle court referring to the regions history and modern ties to the
nching industry.
rengan= Which means to make proud, raise up, or exalt. Personally I think this
e is my favorite so far.
here are a lot of name concepts out there and each of us has to find the one
at best represents the people of this Northern Region and then take it to
art. We must rely upon the heralds to find the best format for that name and
en Kingdom and Society to allow us to use it. This naming movement has caught
fire in many of us and for my part I am simply trying to fuel those fires of
ought in each of us and help head these ideas in a constructive direction. I
lieve that there are more meetings planned I know there is talk of Namron, and
ldern Hills these opportunities will be there for people attend and openly
are their thoughts and ideas before more steps are taken to bring this project
rom concept to completion.
