greetings

uumm, I thought people voted for something like whistmarke, wristmarke,
anyway , something other than Nordic region ?

the one thing that was kind of glossed over .
>>> in the last 7 years this has changed and the main purpose is to decide
>>> an over all arts Champion and have the Crown pick their Champions for
>>> Gulf War.<<

as with the royal huntsman and other issues , it doesn't matter what we( the
populous ) may or may not understand / like / dis like .
the crowns have chosen to do things a certain way.
that is the way it will be done until a different crown chooses to do it
another way.

this is the way the sca has worked for many years, we the holders of awards
are tasked with " advising " the crowns, not making choices for them .
many things now seem to be based on what is best for gulf wars.
but that is from the perspective of someone that has never been able to
afford to go to gulf wars, and would be physically unable to do much even if
I could afford to go.
but I am told that the finances from gw are a great help to the kingdom.
I am also not privy to peer group info, so all I have is public actions and
statements on which to base my opinions .

but to cut my speech a fying short , if you wish to have things changed,
cheer for a different king / queen at the next crown tourney ,one who feels
as you do.
in the mean time the current king / queen have made their decision, we live
with it , work with it ,and move on.

just my 2 centavo's

Be Safe , Be Happy, Have Fun .
Arthur

Subject: [NR] A&S in the Nordic Region

> To anyone even slightly interested in Arts, Crafts and Research.
> For many, many years, us people in the Nordic Region of Ansteorra have
> talked about how the Southern parts of the kingdom did not share our
> views.
> I poo pooed you because I thought like you and I lived in the South but
> this A&S made it very very clear to me that you have been right.
> The First Kingdom A&S competition was held in Nanrom and the Viscountess
> Allison and myself autocrated it. If was based on the certificate system
> that had been in place going back to when we had been a region. You were
> judged against a standard and you were given points and if you went over
> the lowest break you were given a certificate of merit and over the middle
> break a certificate of special merit and over the top break a certificate
> of extraordinary merit.
> There was no limit of the kinds of things you could enter and the judges
> could talk to you right there about your research.
> The first one had an overall winner because the Autocrats gave a special
> pirizes to best over all artist. Mistress Branywn won the prize because
> she had 5 extraordinary merits.
> For years I judged my advancement in an art field on the certifiate I
> bought home.t. This format allowed everyone to get some feedback and spend
> some time with teachers. Also because we were not competing against each
> other we took pride in the fact our group brought home so many
> certifications. Groups would put out lists and honor their A&S heroes and
> one group even had a t shirt made.
> I have been sick for awhile and I haven't been going to KA&S and when I
> did no one thought to correct me But this time I was told I couldn't
> interact with my artist because they could not interact with the judges at
> Gulf War. The person I was judging was a beginner in the art form and I
> thought it would OK. I wasn't going to jack up the scores just talk to
> the person. .
> 7 years ago we (the Laurels ) would get together and help people with
> their documentation. When I was Premier Bard Master Robin wrote a
> wonderful documentation for story telling. Being a Champion really gave an
> artist to build rapport with the Laurel Circle.
> in the last 7 years this has changed and the main purpose is to decide an

> War.
> As an old fashion Nordic Laurel this does not make me Happy. I am into
> helping people to expand and grow and I would like to suggest that we
> could have our own regional A&S festival that followed the old format. I
> would like to use the new judging forms , but allow for more entries and
> not have blind judging.
> Before everyone goes crazy we had over 150 people who entered that first
> KA&S. It was not that long ago we had 100 entries in Bonwick with bad
> weather. the last unlimited entries had 300 pieces and 100 people. It
> isn't impossible and while I can't do all the running around I would be
> willing to help and I believe that there are like minded people with
> experience.
> If we held it about 4 months in front the KA&S those people going to KA&S
> could get help on documentation so they could meet the standards of the
> KA&S.
> If no one wants to put on a regional A&S using this format I would request
> that some group in the North think about using the old format.
