[NR] Heraldic Notes from Roundtable Summer 2019

Hello all you amazing heralds. I'm your new Equinox Herald. I'm looking
forward to helping grow the heraldic arts in the north and the kingdom.


Round table was really amazing. There were all sorts of chances to learn
what is happening on the administrative side of the SCA. There were so many
heraldic meetings I didn't even get to go to all of them.


Here are some notes I took from heraldic meetings during round table:


   -

   In August Laurel is expected to announce that submissions won’t be
   automatically returned if the only thing wrong is that the art needs a
   redraw.  The submitter will be contacted and able to approve or submit a
   correction (I’m not certain which yet). This will delay the submission a
   month not 3 to 6 months.
   -

   If your greater office has a badge, you should use that one.  Laurel
   will no longer approve every single office getting their own badge.
   -

   Oscar 2.0 has been outsourced to try and get it ready to be implemented.
   -

   Precedence tagging project - this is a crowd sourcing group that is
   tagging/indexing the precedence list.  Apparently this process was started
   a long time ago but wasn’t completed. This effort is to finish it.
   -

   Kingdom and Laurel need more language experts.  If you have specialized
   knowledge and are willing to help, please contact Star and Bordure to see
   if you can be helpful to the commentary and submission process.
   -

   Submission forms - the forms are outdated.  If I heard correctly they
   are planning to update them when Oscar 2.0 is launched.
   -

      Forms are being sent without all the information needed.  Please make
      sure to fill out the entire form (with the exceptions that will be listed
      next).  Some fields that are not being filled out and are required.
      -

         If language/culture is important - list the language or culture
         -

         If meaning of the name is important - list the meaning
         -

         If sound of a name is important - print a phonetic spelling that
         you want
         -

         Give a contact email
         -

      The following information is not needed:
      -

         Birthdate
         -

         Gender - yours
         -

         Phone #
         -

      Armory blazon - If you don’t speak the language just write an english
      language description of the emblazon.  Laurel makes the final blazon
      regardless of what is sent up on the form.

      Electronic submissions
      -

         Oscar requires jpg not the pdf that is on the website.
         -

         The resolution needs to be 300 dpi on scans or conversions from
         pdf to jpg.
         -

         Don’t check the fit to page button.  This changes the proportions
         on the armory and makes them illegal.
         -

         Any forms that don’t fulfill these requirements, will be rejected.
         -

         Process for converting PDF to JPG:
         -

            Export PDF to JPG
            -

            Open JPG in paint
            -

            Change size - (Bordure said 3200 pixels previous Asterisk said
            3300 pixels).
            -

   Communication is key to the college working effectively.  Locals
   communicate with up lines.
   -

   We need more commentary going on in kingdom and in other kingdoms on
   submissions.  If you can comment please do so constructively. If you need
   to learn how please contact me or log in to Emma’s weekly/bi-weekly how to
   meetings.  She posts these on the Ansteorra heraldic consultation facebook
   group.

   Make certain if your group is having an event you plan for heraldic
   activities from day one.  Site heraldry, court, ceremonies, lysts, banners,
   consultation tables, displays, … These are all important and need to be
   worked into the planning early on.

   Arbalist Herald is open for application.
   -

   There will be no submissions accepted in kingdom at Pennsic.
   -

   Sable-crane is open for application.
   -

   Do your reports on time.
   -

   The kingdom owns all the heraldic titles for all the groups with the
   exception of Northkeep.  Star is considering transferring ownership of
   these titles to the groups.
   -

   Star Principal is open for application.
   -

   Website needs updates.  I’ve volunteered to help but I’m going to be a
   month or two before I start.
   -

   Warranting class is being reworked again.
   -

   I wasn’t told directly but I think if someone wanted to help out obelisk
   it sounded like a deputy or a transfer might be in order.  Contact Star
   about this if you want to help.
