To answer your question, I would recommend that your lord obtain some
elbow and knee pads and some groin protection and come on out. The
heavy community will get him in armor, teach him what he needs to start,
and supervise his initial training. The only other thing of importance is that
he be over 18 yrs old :-) and be willing to sign a waiver that he understands
that what we do is potentially dangerous.(In reality SCA heavy combat is 
relatively free from serious injuries--by serious, I mean those that would
prevent one from going to work the next day).
