Berengaria, 
I want to second the vote from Merrick re period tattoos.  I'm thinking about 
getting one this summer (for the birthday) and all the references I've come 
across only mention pilgrims and crusaders (Holy land and otherwise) getting 
"marks" to celebrate thier journey.  I was thinking cockle shells, or 
crosses.  Any ideas or information would be appreciated.
