Both of these are valid dates depending on who's doing the writing.  There
are no
*ahem* "carved in stone" rules for Roman numerals.  After all, 1999 could
be MIM,
MXMIX, MCMXCIX, MDCCCCXCIX, or MDCCCCLXXXXVIIII, depending on who's writing
it down,
and who really cares :)
