For those of you who have never been, and might not even be aware of the
Starlight Concerts, next Tuesday is the last one of the season. They have
been going on for 52 years and provide Tulsa with free summer concerts.
Starlight Concerts are played at the amphitheater on the Arkansas River, just
across the 21st Street Bridge at Riverside Driver (1st street to the right).
This is a very pleasant way to end your evening, and sure beats sitting in
front of the tube taking in reruns. It is also a great way to offer another
exposure to the arts to your children, and help them develop an appreciation
of good music. AND the price is right - free!
A willing battalion of hard working martins overhead, keep the mosquitos at
bay, and after the sun goes down, the breeze off the river cools the air
nicely.
Another memorable sight is the flock of Canada geese, who come happily
honking homewards over your heads each evening about 9:00 PM. Bring your lawn
chairs and a cooler and join the rest of the river bunch for a relaxing
evening. Oh, and also bring some bread crumbs - there is an audience of ducks
in attendance, as well.
See you at the river.
