Starting the 18th of July, a week after Faolan's leatherworking class, I'm going
to be holding an ongoing shoemaking class. It will last as many sessions as it
takes for everyone taking them to get a pair of shoes. The first class will
simply be an overview of general shoemaking in the Middle Ages in Europe.
Everyone is encouraged to take that one -- even if you aren't interested in
taking any of the other classes.
The weeks after that we will be scheduling one night a week for a gradual step
by step shoemaking. There will be some homework as each stage is reached (some
seams take longer than others), and people will be expected to provide certain
materials for themselves (leather, an sharp awl (straight or curved), needles,
thread, a small bit of violinist's resin...) these will be discussed more fully
at the first overview class). No one is expected to know anything about
leatherworking when we start. I hope it will not take more than 4-5 sessions of
actually working on the shoes to complete them (if some people do take longer,
that's ok too).
I realize that this is a Wednesday night, and across from Fighter Practice, but
the people who have already expressed an interest could only agree on that one
night. If there is a real call for it from people who prefer to go to Fighter
Practice on Wednesday night, I will be more than happy to do this again in the
fall -- please just let me know.
