[Northkeep] Margrave and Location

After Chass posted this, we received a few responses
privately, I won't go into details or state who sent
them, but I will address the suggestions that were
given. One suggestion was for us to have Margrave as
a One day, no camping event at one of our local parks,
in which case, we could have the event whenever we
wished, more or less. One of the goals of having an
event is to hopefully make a little money, or at least
not lose money. Having Margrave at one of hte local
parks would keep us from charging admission, not to
mention allowing anyone who happened to drive by and
see us in garb attend. There would be no merchants,
virtually no way to hold any competitions, and having
a one day event would highly limit attendance, as the
"average" person would not drive more than 50 miles to
attend a one day event. The nearest group to us is
Tulsa.... which is further than a 50 mile drive. I
suspect that we would have a very limited attendance,
even from Northkeep, because not many people would
want to drive that far to come to an event where there
aren't any competitions, no food, just basically
walking around in garb gossiping...

Another suggestion was for a demo instead of
Margrave... well, that has been in the works for a
while, but there again, it is limited by time, space
and interest. It would cost us to be put on, and we
would gain nothing from it, unless it might be a few
more members.

One other issue is that we have a very small fighter
contingent.... This is true, but we are having
difficulty getting our fighters authorized and we have
a certain percentage of our group who do not attend
meetings or practices here. Part of the problem is a
lack of loaner armor, some of us are unable to afford
to buy or make our armor except a little at a time.
But part of the problem is that there has been a
difficulty with people refusing to certify some of our
people. Also, our Knight Marshall
is out of town more often than not. This is not a
slam against him, he has to do what is nessecary to
feed his family, but it does affect our ability to
have practices. Besides, the SCA is not only about
fighting, as our Margrave is showing... we have A&S
competitions, Bardic, and other things as well.

We do understand that a lot of people will not be able
to attend this year since we are opposite 3 Kings, but
that was the only date we could get at a place we
could afford. Believe me, if there were any other
time we could have the event, we would.
