Parkin Archeological State Park

JUNE 22, 2002:
10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wield a sword like those used by a Spanish explorer!
Don't forget to protect yourself with armor and a shield! (Then try to
move under all that weight!) Get a hands-on look at replica weapons,
clothing and more used by the Spanish when they made their way through
this part of Arkansas in 1541.

Mammoth Spring State Park
1st Annual Knap-In
JUNE 21-23, 2002:
Learn and enjoy the fascinating art of making and using stone tools.
Demonstrations are 9am to 5pm Saturday. Registration fee required for
knappers.

Toltec Mounds State Park
Summer Solstice Celebration
JUNE 22, 2002:
Starting around 3 pm, visitors can participate in Native American tools
and weapon demonstrations and learn about the art of flintknapping.
Beginning at 5:45 pm, resident archeologist Dr. Martha Rolingson will
provide a slide presentation on the alignment of the mounds with solar
events. Following at 7pm, Park Interpreters will give a special guided
sunset tour of the prehistoric mound site. The evening will end with the
observation of the sunset over Mound B. $3 adult $2 child (6-12)
