[Northkeep] Classes and stuff

Angus, I agree 100% with your observations. My personal belief is that
there are just too many events and that the perception of if you "Don't
go to a local event you're not supporting that group." Causes people to
go to more events than they really need to. People rush to events and
then rush home to get the real-life-stuff done before work on Monday.

My opinions only,
JP

Absolutely. If you think I'm full of it here, SAY SO. Speak up. If
you
have other ideas, I -want- to hear them.

I don't think you are full of it. I DO think that this is a symptom of
alrger problem within not just Norhtkeep, or The North, or even
Ansteorra. It is a problem that is prevelant thoughout the society.
People simply do not do as much as they used to. This extends to
everything from classes, to practices, to events. People are not staying
the night at events, not staying for feast, daytripping. In the 5 years
I have been in the SCA the thing I see the most is half empty camps on
Sat. nights and empty classes during the day. I am not sure that there
is a remedy for this. I just don't know. But I do know that this
attitude of lethargy is sucking the society dry like a jungle leech. It
is really a sad course of events. In the twenty five or so events I have
been to in the last five years I can think of approx. 3 times that come
Sat. night it was not the same few people to hang out with and enjoy the
evening. Don't get me wrong these are people I care about a whole lot,
but the smaller the groups of people having a good time on Saturday
night, the less it holds my own interest to stay. This attitude bleeds
over into everything including classes, meetings and local gatherings.
So, you end up with the core group of say ten people or so for a shire
and twenty or so for a barony, that do everything, go to everyhting and
stay at everything when possible.
DISCLAIMER: I do not know how to fix any of this other than to do what I
do, go to events and stay when I go, go to all classes and local
gatherings that hold interest for me and to work my own self at events.
I do not have the answers.
