As to the King Arthur Faire site being cancelled. I saw that also.
Appairantly, the powers that be have decided that the Faire as it has
been in the past with all the players, and actors, and singers, and such
including Jousting, will indeed not be held. So far , as I can
assertain, They hope for the SCA in all of its diverseness to come out
and show and do what it does best. This is caused by the economc
downturn which has changed the fortunes of many including yours truly.
If this is indeed the case, then I think it would be a tremendous shot
in the arm for the SCA here and revive sagging fortunes as the populace
attending would not be watching other activities mainly, but see us and
what we do, and find out that the SCA does do many other things beside
fight. But as to the fighting, being as there would be little else
other than the SCA there, they could stay to there hearts content, or
leave to see other things and come back many times. I am figuring
around 6 hrs on the field give or take,so that will be a meat grinder.
We will need many fighters in order to continue for that long, both
light and heavy. If anyone has combat arrows for crossbow, I could
use a doz or so for demo purposes, aloing with same for longbow. As
this is not an official SCA event no waivers need be signed, and for
those new to fighting, I am sure there would be ample time for
instruction in many types of weapons. There will be some loaner armour
also I am sure for those lacking. The area is wonderful for camping and
Stroud is around 8 miles away or so, and has all the needs one could
want, but I suspect they roll up the carpet early. They will also be
there Sunday, and that is when we will be despertly short of everybody,
so I urge all those that can to consider making a weekend out of it.
Its about as close as Will Rodgers to you, and for those that fish,
right next door to Stroud lake. Also showers are about 2/3 miles away.
If enough fighters can show up, then we can have keep battles, but I
rather doubt that enough will show up that we can use it. But its
there. 32sq ft, with VERY TRICKY gateway, and partial 2 stories for
archers. It is VERY shaded and a rather romantic site when it is well
filled with people in garb, Dav has done alot of work over the years to
transform this into what it has become, and many of the croud have come
to expect it to be in operation. It will be a shame to let this
oppertunity pass by for the Barony to help expand its power and
posessions by not turning out for this worthy endevor. I and all my
house will be out to help set up and take down Dionadiar/Ensign, to
reciprocate for Northkeeps help in the Faire in advance. Lord Wilhelm
