[Northkeep] the next event

Hiya Trish,

I'm assuming that since you posted this publicly, you won't mind a public
response. The SCA is many things and the first and foremost of these is
that it's a volunteer organization. With that understanding, we can't
regulate friendliness or a welcoming spirit beyond much more than a
suggestion.

People go to an event, they hang out with friends, and anything else they do
is voluntary. We couldn't demand that they welcome people anymore than we
demand that they do the dishes after feast. The actual truth is that the
dishes get done and the people are usually welcomed. Sometimes things like
that slip through the cracks.

The Crown tourney event and Coronation are not always the best social
mixers. Most people at these events are pretty focused on the future of the
kingdom. I wouldn't feel too bad if people were all focused on the tourney
and the courts. My wife's first event was Coronation and she almost starved
to death until some of my friends came and rescued her. If you ask any of
my friends, they'll gladly relate that story to you and what a clod I was at
the time.
:)

I'll fully support your wish to never attend another SCA event, but I
suspect that in loudly announcing it, you might secretly wish to attend
another. If that is indeed the case, you might come to some of your groups
local meetings and just make a few friends there. It's always easier to go
to an event with a buddy.

If you treat the SCA as a spectator sport, you'll hate it.
