[Northkeep] the next event

Trisha,

I, too, played for more than a year before I found the hook that caught me. For me, it was doing voice heraldry in Ainar's and Mercedes' court at Castellan.

This is just my opinion, but the best thing about the SCA is not the participating, although that is a great feeling too. But that the SCA is huge, it has thousands and thousands of people and no two are alike. The SCA is full of wonderfully creative and crafty people who have a myriad of talents and do hundreds of different activities. The SCA is a society, and as such gives much substance to its members. I am confident in saying that if you have interest in things medieval then someone in the SCA has something to interest you.

Some SCA events are for everyone, some are of special interest. I go to the Festival of Japan, others go to Knowne World Dance Symposium, some else altogether may go to the Academy of the Bow.

Castellan is for everyone. We try to have a little something for all there. It combines a number of diverse competitions attempts to reward the most well-rounded contestant with the title of Castellan.

I am Masamune no Yahaki and I would like to welcome you to the Barony of Northkeep. I am the deputy herald, and if there is anything I can do for you, of matters heraldic or not, then I will do my best to help you, or introduce you to someone who can. This I pledge to you, and to any new member, or to anyone in the Knowne World. I ask that you do yourself one boon; that you go to Castellan. Come, play, shop with the merchants, and compete if you can.

As for Crown Tournament; I am truly sorry that you did not feel like an insider. I can only say that it takes a little time, but Ansteorrans are well worth the effort it takes to know them. We are not perfect, we try not to be exclusive, or vain.

But we are proud, for there is much to be proud of. There are many, many wonderful people who excel in so many ways. I feel a stronger kinship with the populace of my Barony than I ever did in a military unit. I am proud of each and every one of them and I am proud to be part of the collective mind that dreams the dream.

In service,

     Masamune no Yahaki
      sometimes known as Daruma
Deputy Herald of the Barony of Northkeep

This is probably not going to be very popular, but ya'll need to reevaluate
your "making others feel welcome" policy before you break your arms patting
yourselves on the back. I, for one, will not be attending any more events
and it's NOT because I don't take the SCA seriously. I just got a reality
check in the form of paying a lot of money to feel like the only person who
didn't get the inside joke. I'm all "funned out", so color me gone.

Trish
