At a guess, I'd say "high-din-DREW-dis" and "bet-SOL-ta", oh yes, and 
"GOOOO-da"

Diarmaid's not from the right time period to wear one (thank god) so I 
wouldn't know :)

You may want to watch your step there, "Houpeland" is a term that modern 
amateur costumers  (mostly because some 19th and early 20th costuming 
sources lied and said it was alright) have taken to use for far more than 
the original 15th century garment (which was just a snuggly fitted man's 
garment).  I only mention this because some sources today are starting to 
get a little _cranky_ about it :)

As for multiple layers of fabric, I'll tell you the same thing that I tell 
everyone else - properly layered linen and a suit-weight wool are not as hot 
as you think they are (as opposed to cotton and plastic, er, polyester, 
which are far hotter than you think they are going to be - no matter how hot 
you thought they were :) ).  As long as there is -any- sort of a breeze, the 
stuff I wear would be fine even today.
