[Northkeep] Research Qs

Guten Tag, Northkeep.

I'm basically a newbie in the area of research and it is more than a
little daunting to me. However, I am really interested in researching
some pretty specific areas of German history (in
particular, the "Friends of God" - a group of German mystics in the
14th century).

However, my basic question is how in the world do I begin to do that,
and how to I document my research? I was a business student at
college, so my time in the library was incredible limited. Also, I've
heard of individuals being elevated as Laurels in at least part to
their "historical research." What type of research do they present? Is
it a part of A&S competitions at events or what?

Any emails pointing me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
