Um....now I can't answer that with authority as I've not studied period 
wine recipes. However, it would seem to me, that saffron's subtle 
flavoring would require one hell of a boatload to impart any real 
flavor. I can see, though, how it might contribute to color.

Now, pretty please, share? I LOVE saffron rice.
