I wore stuff to work, but I think most people are uncomfortable with "dress 
up" as adults.  People in the SCA tend to have more experience with it (I 
was commenting at a party Saturday night at the amusement when I went into 
my regular Starbucks on the way, and got to explain that "no, THIS time I 
*am* going to a costume party" ]
