I very much like this idea and would be glad to participate.

I am in total agreement with Tega. Every newcomer is
intimidated by the old timers who speak so matter of
factly about how things are run, the different areas
of involvement, the nobles, the conduct etc... and it
leaves the newbie out of the circle of people that
already know what it is all about. There are always
things that a newcomer wants to involve himself in,
however to get into the various circles of activity is
difficult since the general attitude is made quite
known that the newbie probably isn't going to stick
around for long anyway, so why waste the energy in
making him welcome. That pressure is heavy enough to
bear. Should some of the more experienced Barony
members take turns, kinda like recess duty, hosting a
newcomer's class (if the idea isn't liked, then I
didn't say it :-) it might make it so the circle opens
a little for fresh blood. The economics of the SCA
can be demanding as well. Perhaps a meeting on how to
get out from under supposed expectations...just a
thought.....

Anyway, that is about a cent and a half worth.
Thought I would spare you the other half :-)
